About Andy

I've lived in Ann Arbor for a decade, and like many families here, my roots in this community run through our public schools. My kids attend (or attended) AAPS, and I've seen firsthand what makes this district special — and where it still has room to grow.

I was raised a teachers’ kid. My parents spent their entire careers as public school educators Michigan, as has my brother. Together, our family has spent over 135 years learning and working in Michigan public schools.  I have two sons that either attended or are still attending AAPS. I work as a scientist and my family includes a physician in the University of Michigan’s Department of Pediatrics. Public schools are important to us and we believe they are important to democracy.My educational background includes a B.S. Chemistry, a Ph.D. in biochemistry, and postdoctoral research funded by the National Institutes of Health. My career has been focused on the discovery of innovative medicines for patients suffering from diseases with no available or inadequate treatment. I have volunteered in AAPS, coached freshman basketball at Skyline, serve as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee of the Endocrine Society, and have experience as a member of the executive teams of multiple life science companies.

Over the years, I've watched our district face real challenges: budget pressures that risk paralyzing the district, dissatisfied teachers ... and it's long past time to stabilize things for the future. We need to ensure we have a Board who can manage the basics like finances and teacher contracts if we are to achieve our potential as a district for our students and community.

The school board sets the direction for everything — how money is spent, how teachers are supported, how families are heard. It's one of the most consequential elected positions in our community, and it deserves members who bring both care and competence to the table.

I'm running because I believe our board can do better — more transparent, more accountable, and more focused on the students and families it serves. I want to be a voice for the whole district, not just the loudest voices in the room.
